WEA is an acronym for Warner Elektra Atlantic. The acronym was introduced in early 1972 when Warner Communications' international music division [l640338 was renamed [l1255. All subsidiary companies outside the US eventually changed their names accordingly - compare for example [l303518 and [l43315, [l266134 and [l264092, or [l277851 and [l43012.

As a label, WEA was introduced in some markets in the late 1970s.
